Whether its known to you as Ireland, or as “Eire,” the Emerald Isle, the Poor Old Woman, Dark Cow, Cathleen NiHoulihan, Roisin Dubh, the “Land of Saints and (ahem) Scholars”, or Hibernia, this 26,592 square mile island nation is home to almost 6 million people, and the Motherland to almost 74 million more who live all around the world. Ireland has been populated for approximately 9,000 years. The Irish tend to be a hearty folk because the countryside demands it.
